Responsible Travel

travel the world

to make it better

The Kratons´way

We believe travelling can be a driving force towards economic growth, inclusive development and environmental sustainability. So much so that we get very serious when it comes to our responsibility with the planet and the people who inhabit it.

An agenda for 2030

In 2015, all United Nations Member States adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet. At its core, the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) establish a comprehensive framework on how to improve the lives of people in all levels of society.

Kratons has adhered to these goals, incorporating them into its business strategy. The Sustainable Development Goals are now the compass that point us in the right direction.

Our efforts

We are firmly convinced that engaging all our stakeholders is critical for our sustainability plan. For this reason, we have divided our strategy into three major pillars:

Travelers

Responsible travel can often save money. However, sometimes working for a better planet comes at a price. We work closely with our travellers to offer the most sustainable option for their budget.

Upon request, we can send you a short summary of sustainability for your trip. This paragraph informs our travelers about the general impact of their trip, as well as possible alternatives to make their tour more responsible.

We always go the extra mile to make our tours as responsible as possible. However, certain activities such as travelling by plane may negatively affect our planet. For those cases we work with local organizations to compensate the carbon emissions of our travellers who decide to do so.

Providers

Providers are the cornerstone for responsible travel. We evaluate and classify our providers based on their sustainability efforts. We then incorporate this information into our database of providers, which allow us to be fast and efficient in finding the most responsible option for your budget.

We are committed to making a positive impact throughout the whole value chain. This commitment requires our providers and partners to engage with our code of conduct. Throughout a continuous one-to-one dialogue, Kratons coaches its providers in their transition to a more sustainable business model.

In Kratons, we believe in the power of collaboration. We have established partnerships with other destination agencies specialized in responsible travel. These partners help us to provide the best services in those destinations in which we are not specialists.

Our team

We are convinced that leading by example is the best strategy to engage travellers and providers on our sustainability efforts. For that we have created a sustainability team (the green team) that raises awareness among our employees and propose actions on internal sustainability. Employees engaging one another has proven more effective than memos from the top. The green team has generated policies on energy-efficiency, health, recycling, natural light maximization, going paperless, telework, etc.

We acknowledge our limits and seek to improve our sustainability efforts. To get better at this we need to continuously learn and evaluate our actions. Our employees are encouraged to join workshops on responsible travel and sustainability. By the end of the year we evaluate our past actions to make sure we are advancing on our sustainability goals.

Inclusion makes us stronger. As an equal opportunity employer, Kratons does not discriminate against applicants or employees based on race, sex, sexual orientation, color, national origin, ancestry, marital status, creed, religion, age, military status, pregnancy, disability or genetic information. Recruitment, selection, development and advancement of employees are based on merit, qualifications, demonstrated skill and achievements. In our recruitment processes, we always encourage people from underrepresented groups to apply.

We are very proud of our results so far. Equal pay and equal representation of men and women on management positions are the outcome of our zero-discrimination policy.
